Qlik Advanced Analytics Integration Finally Arrives!

For years, there have been requests for the integration of Qlik with tools that offer more advanced analytical horsepower. Those requests have finally been answered. In the June-2017 release of Qlik, there is support for what Qlik is calling “Advanced Analytics Integration” (AAI). This has also sometimes been referred to as “Server Side Extensions” (SSE). Regardless of what you want to call them, the big news is that they are finally here. What this means, is that you can now expose data that lives within a Qlik data model to external scripting languages like Python, C++, R, and others. This gives you the ability to write customized functions outside of Qlik and then call those functions from inside of Qlik, but you call them just like you would call a native Qlik Function. Since this can be done in the script or from the front-end, the Qlik user experience remains essentially unchanged.

Recently, we recorded an episode on the Qlik Dork’s video podcast to discuss a use case we’ve been working on where we wrote a Python AAI Plugin for Qlik to aid in resource allocation. If you’re interested in seeing what it looks like in action check out the video here. In an upcoming blog, we’ll walk through a technical guide of how we made this work.
